Although we were all
created by God, in His image and likeness, not everyone is a child of God, at
least not yet. The moment Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they lost the fellowship
they had with God, they and the entire human race after them, died spiritually.
But God in His love and grace made a way for the entire human race to be
reconciled to Him and that was through the perfect sacrifice of His Son Jesus,
who gave His life on that cross at Calvary to atone for the sins of the human
race. We can now be restored back into fellowship with God by trusting in what
Jesus did for us.
We can now become children
of God when we believe in Jesus and receive Him as Our Lord and Savior. Our
spirits that were once dead become alive to God again, we are Born Again as His
Children, and His Spirit comes to regenerate and inhabit our spirit. The Word
of God declares:
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, to those who believe in His name: - John 1:12 NKJV
As children of God, we are no longer to be led by our human natures
or by any other outward laws but by the Holy Spirit who is in us. Fellow child of
God, our Born Again spirits (indwelt by and joined to the Holy Spirit) are to guide and
lead in our lives, our souls and bodies are to follow that leading.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. – Romans 8:14 NIV
It is the Holy Spirit who
leads our spirits and our spirits in turn lead our souls and our bodies ultimately follow suit. The Holy Spirit within us talks to us, helps us, teaches us,
guides us, intercedes for us, comforts us, convicts us of who we are in
Christ…and as we affirmatively respond to Him we are being led by Him – that’s
our heritage as children of God.
Being led by the Spirit of
God will result in the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) being produced in our lives. On the contrary,
every time we choose not to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading we will end up
walking in the flesh and producing the works of the flesh listed in Galatians 5:19-21 and reaping the
consequences of our poor choices.
Let’s look at a couple of
verses…
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
– Galatians 5:18 NKJV
Now check this out:
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but
under grace. – Romans 6:14 NKJV

From these scriptures we
can safely conclude that the only way to live victoriously over sin is not to
subject ourselves to the OT laws but rather to submit ourselves to the leading
of the Holy Spirit. If we are led by the Holy Spirit we are no longer under the
OT Law of Moses, we are now under God’s unmerited favor, His amazing grace.
As we follow the Spirit’s
leading we will experience His abundant life and perfect peace.
Blessings!
