For sin shall no
longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What
then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no
means! - Romans 6:14-15 NIV
The implication
here is this: under the law, sin has dominion over a person, for they are
constantly trying to live up to it in their own strength, and if they stumble
on one they are guilty of all. The law is good at exposing one’s sins but it
cannot help you overcome sin. The law in simple terms is telling us: YOU NEED A
SAVIOR!
No human being has ever been able to perfectly keep and fulfill the law except Jesus Christ, the last Adam. And Jesus himself said he came to "fulfill the law" (Matt 5:17). After perfectly fulfilling every single jot and tittle of the law, Jesus went to the cross and paid the penalty for our sins. He became sin so that when we believe in Him we are counted as righteous before God! Now, that is God's grace!
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that
in him we might become the righteousness of God. – 2 Corinthians 5:21 NRSV
As the Word of God
makes it clear that we are saved by God’s grace; our salvation is not of our
own doing – Christ is the Author of our Salvation and now that we are under His
grace, we have victory over sin, we are not ruled by it any longer, it has no
dominion over us anymore.
8 For by
grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is
the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9 NRSV
The One who
fulfilled the law lives in us, and by His Spirit he's written a New Commandment of love in
our hearts (John 13: 34). And we can
now love one another because we ourselves have already received His love, it's
been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5) God's love compels us to do what is pleasing to Him, His
grace enables us to walk in the good works that He has already prepared for us.
In Christ, God
works in us, giving us both the will and the ability to do what pleases Him. It
is all about Him; He forgave us, cleansed us and doesn't impute sin to us all
because of what Jesus did. Now that is God’s unmerited favor towards us. Let’s
believe it and receive it by faith and go forth blessing others with the
blessings of this amazing grace that is ours through Christ.

11 For the
grace of God has appeared that
offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to
live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this
present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the
glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem
us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager
to do what is good. – Titus 2:11-14 NIV
By the Grace of God
let us walk in victory today!
